RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, George M. Marx, a proud native of our City, joined the Chicago rail operations of the Penn Central Transportation Company in 1968, and

 

WHEREAS, George M. Marx has been engaged in railroad operations in the Chicago metropolitan area, the largest freight rail hub in the world, for his entire adult life; and

 

WHEREAS, George M. Marx began his career as a Block Operator at the age of 18 and advanced to become a train dispatcher, Asst. Chief Dispatcher, Assistant Supervisor of Train Operations, Division Supervisor of Train Operations, Trainmaster, Account Executive, District Superintendent, Manger Hub Operations and, finally, Director of Intermodal Operations, a position he held for nineteen years, and

 

WHEREAS, George M. Marx's expertise in railroad operations combined with his unmatched energy, endurance and persistence has supported the Chicago MSA in maintaining its status as the largest and most vital rail freight hub in the world and,

 

WHEREAS, George M. Marx has provided invaluable contributions in the development and operation of the world's largest rail intermodal freight network in Chicago, and

 

WHEREAS, On September 30, 2018, George M. Marx will officially retire from his position as Director of intermodal operations at Norfolk Southern Railroad after an emphatically successful career; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this 20th day of September, 2018, do hereby congratulate George M. Marx for his remarkable career in rail operations which spanned fifty years and express our gratitude to him for his dedication, commitment and contributions to the Chicago rail industry and the City of Chicago; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVEp; ^nat a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to Mr. George M. Marx.
