RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A widely admired educator and author, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph was the loving wife of Dr. Lloyd; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph was the much-adored mother of Jenny, Amelia and Matthew to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Born in Germany in 1930, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph fled Nazi Germany with her family and settled in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The daughter of a college professor, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, earned a master of arts degree from Harvard University and a doctorate from Radcliffe College; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph taught political science at Harvard University until 1963 when she and her husband joined the University of Chicago where they enjoyed long and prominent careers; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph was an author and a widely respected expert in the politics and culture of India; and

WHEREAS, The government of India bestowed the nation's third highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan, on Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph and her husband in recognition for their service to literature and education; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Dr. Susanne Hoeber Rudolph imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
