RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Right Honorable Tessa Jowell has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 70; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Right Honorable Tessa Jowell was Britain's Culture Secretary who played a key role in securing the 2012 London Olympic Games for England; and
WHEREAS, A Baroness, the Right Honorable Tessa Jowell served in a number of government minister positions during her tenure in public service and as a member of the House of Lords; and
WHEREAS, The Right Honorable Tessa Jowell used her own cancer diagnosis to campaign before Parliament for better access to medical care; and
WHEREAS, A Privy Counsellor since 1998, the Right Honorable Tessa Jowell was named Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Early in her career, the Right Honorable Tessa Jowell was a social worker who was assistant director of Mind, a mental health charity; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Right Honorable Tessa Jowell serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Right Honorable Tessa Jowell was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her husband, David Mills, her two children and her three step-children, the Right Honorable Tessa Jowell imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby commemorate the Right Honorable Tessa Jowell for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Right Honorable Tessa Jowell.
