RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Larry Cotter, a long-time resident and friend of the City of Chicago, celebrated his 92nd birthday on May 26th, 2016; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Alderman of the 35th Ward; and
WHEREAS, a native of Trinidad, Colorado and a member of our nation's "Greatest Generation", Mr. Cotter has lived in the City of Chicago for over half his life; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cotter has raised three daughters, two of whom have been called to their final resting place; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cotter has long been an active community member in our Police Department's CAPS program, using his voice to bring attention to issues in his community; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cotter is one of the original members ofthe West Logan Square/Avondale block club, a long-standing, active institution that actively engages residents of the Northwest side of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1985, a tragic fire took place at 2847 North Milwaukee Avenue, claiming the lives of three firefighters; and
WHEREAS, following the tragic fire, members of the community rallied to clean up a nearby park and build a memorial to the firemen lost; and
WHEREAS, dedicated on October 22, 1985, Firefighter's Memorial Park is a lasting tribute to the firefighters who died in the February 1st fire; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cotter has voluntarily maintained the state of the park even prior to its dedication to the fallen firefighters and continues to do so through his 92nd birthday; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 2016, do hereby congratulate Mr. Larry Cotter on the occasion of his 92nd Birthday; and
