We are writing in support of R2013-876, a resolution introduced at the October 16, 2013 City Council meeting, calling for a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 7 (see attachment). Please add the undersigned as additional co-sponsors of
WHEREAS, The elected officials of the City of Chicago have a deep respect for the sworn officers of the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago Police Department is a part of, and empowered by, the community, and is committed to protecting the lives, property, and rights of all people, to maintaining order, and to enforcing the law impartially; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago Police Department is sworn to carry out its mission and to protect and serve the citizens of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, It is the public policy ofthe State of Illinois to promote effective collective bargaining between public safety personnel and government; and
WHEREAS, The elected officials ofthe City of Chicago believe that promoting labor stability within the Chicago Police Department will fortify resolve and will better allow the Chicago Police Department to protect and maintain the safety of the citizens of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, the City of Chicago has, during at least 20 years of collective bargaining, agreed in writing with the exclusive collective bargaining representative for the sworn officers of the Chicago Police Department that any economic changes to the parties' collective bargaining agreement, whether agreed to by the parties or established pursuant to interest arbitration, would be retroactive to the first day of the collective bargaining agreement, now therefore
