RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Lars Peter Hansen, a Professor at the University of Chicago, has been named a joint recipient of the Nobel Prize for Economics; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences honored Dr. Lars Peter Hansen along with his Chicago colleague, Dr. Eugene Fama, and Dr. Robert Shiller of Yale University "for their empirical analysis of asset prices"; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lars Peter Hansen's research helped to explain why stock and bond prices change over time; and
WHEREAS, A native of Champaign, Illinois, Dr. Lars Peter Hansen graduated from Utah State University and earned his doctorate from the University of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lars Peter Hansen is the David Rockefeller Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lars Peter Hansen is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Past President of the Econometrics Society; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Lars Peter Hansen serve as an example to all; now, therefore
I BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of November, 2013, do hereby congratulate Dr. Lars Peter Hansen on receiving this prestigious honor and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution presented to Dr. Lars Peter Hansen.
