RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Everett Barlow has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-five; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A former resident of Clarendon Hills, Everett Barlow was a prominent insurance executive and the loving husband for sixty-seven years of Verle; and
WHEREAS, Everett Barlow enjoyed a long and highly successful career with the Bituminous Insurance Company and retired as a Vice President; and
WHEREAS, Everett Barlow was a Past President and archivist of the 130-year-old Union League Club of Chicago, where he was a longtime supporter of its Boys and Girls Club; and
WHEREAS, A World War II veteran and a widely admired civic leader, Everett Barlow headed fundraising efforts which installed the USS Chicago, a nuclear attack submarine, at Newport News, Virginia in 1986; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his contributions to the insurance industry, Everett Barlow was a recipient of the first Presidential Citation awarded by the Chicago Board of Underwriters; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Everett Barlow serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Everett Barlow will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Everett Barlow imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby commemorate Everett Barlow for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Everett Barlow.
