RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable William "Bill" Barrett has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William "Bill" Barrett was a former Nebraska Congressman and the loving husband for 63 years of Elsie; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William "Bill" Barrett was the much-adored father of four children and the grandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William "Bill" Barrett served in Congress representing Nebraska's Third District from 1991 to 2001; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William "Bill" Barrett helped to write the Freedom to Farm Act in 1996 and opposed federal interference in local water rights issues; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William "Bill" Barrett previously served as a member of the Nebraska Legislature from 1979 to 1991; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure in public office, the Honorable William "Bill" Barrett was known as a consensus builder who sought to understand opposing points of view; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable William "Bill" Barrett serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable William "Bill" Barrett to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William "Bill" Barrett was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable William "Bill" Barrett imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
