RESOLUTION HONORING POLISH FILM FESTIVAL IN AMERICA
WHEREAS, The Polish Film Festival in America is held in Chicago and is the largest festival of Polish films outside of Poland; and
WHEREAS, The Polish Film Festival in America was founded in 1989 after the fall of communism by Christopher Kamyszew, a film and art executive, educator and philanthropist; and
WHEREAS, The Polish Film Festival in America has been organized by the Society for Arts, a non-for-profit organization established in 1981 with an objective to promote European arts and film in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Festival has featured over 1,500 films, hosted over 600 influential film professionals and held premieres for influential filmmakers like Roman Polanski {Bitter Moon, The Pianist), Agnieszka Holland (The Third Miracle, Copying Beethoyen), and Krzysztof Kieslowski (Short Film About Killing, Short Film About Love); and
WHEREAS, The Festival has supported Polish filmmaking in many ways. The Festival has promoted films for the Academy Awards, helped the development of other Polish Film Festivals, hosted a summit for Polish filmmakers and American distributors, distributed Polish films, restored films and awarded scholarships to worthy Polish filmmakers; and
WHEREAS, Through its Wings Award, the Polish Film Festival in America has honored many worthy individuals for their lifetime achievements including Director Roman Polanski, Cinematographer Janusz Kaminski and Composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek; and
WHEREAS, The Festival has received numerous awards both in Poland and the United States, including the Polish Presidential Gold Medal of Merit, the Cavalier's Cross of Merit, Copernican Award and the Polish Film Institute Award;
WHEREAS, The 28th Polish Film Festival in America will be help from November 5th to November 28th, 2016, at the Gallery Theater in Chicago, IL and Movico Rosemont 18 in Rosemont, IL; now, therefore,
