RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Mary Jeanette Bitter has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 80; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary Jeanette Bitter was the loving and devoted wife of Dr. James Bitter; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary Jeanette Bitter was the much-adored mother of James, John, Stephen and Patricia Lee to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Quincy, Illinois, Mary Jeanette Bitter dedicated many years to improving the lives of children; and
 
WHEREAS, Passionate and articulate about issues concerning child welfare in Illinois, Mary Jeanette Bitter served as President of the Board of Directors for the United Way of Adams County from 1979 to 1981 and then as the President of United Way of Illinois for four years; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1987, Mary Jeanette Bitter continued her inspiring advocacy for children when she co-founded Voices for Illinois Children; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Mary Jeanette Bitter serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Her zeal for helping others and her ability to live life to the fullest endeared Mary Jeanette Bitter to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and empowered her to positively impact the lives of countless children in Illinois; and
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Mary Jeanette Bitter imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
 
BE IT RESOL VED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of February, 2013, do hereby commemorate Mary Jeanette Bitter for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Jeanette Bitter.
