TRIBUTE TO MARJORIE TRAXLER ALSCHULER
WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom, God has granted eternal rest to Marjorie Traxler Alschuler, an outstanding educator, scholar and member of her community; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Traxler Alschuler began her life on the 4th of July in 1934 as the daughter of the late Captain Milton and Rosaline Traxler on this city's West Side in the Garfield Park neighborhood. She attended Delano Elementary School and Marshall High School before the family moved to suburban Glencoe where she graduated from New Trier High School. She matriculated to Northwestern University where she received a Bachelors Degree in Organic Chemistry and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Germany. She furthered her education at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California where she earned her Masters Degree and returned to Northwestern to receive a PhD in Science Education; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Alschuler taught Chemistry at University of Illinois when it was located on Navy Pier. She became a well-known an expert in the field of medical education and trained many generations of medical professionals while working at University of Illinois Medical School as well as St. Joseph's Hospital among other places; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Alschuler was married to prominent architect Frank Alschuler, a 53-year marriage that ended only with her passing. Their union was blessed with a son and daughter as well as two grandchildren. Among her many civic contributions, she served on the teacher selection committee at Walt Disney Magnet School and was past president of the Board of Directors for the Uptown community's Southern School. She also enjoyed cooking, Chicago's vast cultural offerings and travel; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Alschuler leaves behind to mourn her passing and celebrate her memory her loving husband Frank; son Matthew Alschuler; daughter Mimi Alschuler; two grandchildren, Aidan and Hannah Walsh; a brother, Dr. Joseph Traxler and a host of nieces and neph...
