RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Edward A. Sprinkle has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Palos Heights, Edward A. Sprinkle was a former standout member of the Chicago Bears football team and the loving husband of the late Marian, nee Carlson; and

WHEREAS, Edward A. Sprinkle was the much-adored father of Edward, Robert and Susan, the grandfather of five and the great-grandfather of seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A native of Tuscola, Texas, Edward A. Sprinkle attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he played football and tried out for the Chicago Bears in 1944; and

WHEREAS, Edward A. Sprinkle rose to fame as defensive end for the Chicago Bears and earned the nickname "The Claw" for his aggressive playing style; and

WHEREAS, Renowned for his ability to flatten quarterbacks with a single swing of his powerful forearm, Edward A. Sprinkle played in four pro bowls and was the last living member of the Chicago Bears 1946 Championship team; and

WHEREAS, Edward A. Sprinkle was a fan favorite who wore No. 7 on his jersey and retired from professional football after the 1955 season; and

WHEREAS, Following his professional football career, Edward A. Sprinkle owned a tile and carpeting store in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood which he later relocated to Palos Park; and

WHEREAS, Edward A. Sprinkle also owned a bowling alley for a number of years in Chicago Ridge; and

WHEREAS, Edward A. Sprinkle was inducted into the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame in 1984; and
