RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin was a widely admired Woodstock civic leader and the loving husband of Paulette and the late Val; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin served as a member of the Woodstock School Board, a Councilman and later as the Mayor of Woodstock; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Mayor from 1973 to 1977, the Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin contributed to the restoration of the Woodstock Opera House; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin practiced law in Woodstock and served his country as a psychiatric social worker in the United States Army during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin served as the President of the Mental Health Center for McHenry County and was Founder of the McHenry County Family Services Agency; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin enjoyed history and had a passion for the wit and wisdom of President Abraham Lincoln; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of December, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable H. Joseph "Joe" Gitlin for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
