Please introduce the attached ordinance on my behalf at thc June 22, 2022, meeting ofthe Chicago City Council and refer such matter to the Committee on Committees and Rules for consideration regarding a resolution passed by the City Council submitting the referendum question of enacting term limits on the office of Mayor to the voters of Chicago at the next regular election.

"BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF CHICAGO AS FOLLOWS:

 

Pursuant to Article VII, Section 6(1) and Section 11(a) ofthe 1970 Illinois Constitution, the Chicago City Council by resolution submits to the electors of the City of Chicago the following question of public policy at the next regular election occurring not less than 78 days after the passage ofthis referendum resolution:

 

Shall Chicago adopt the following term limit for thc office of Mayor effective for th mayoral election in 2023 and thereafter: No person may hold thc office of Mayor for more than two consecutive elected 4-ycar terms?"
