RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 71; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Uptown, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., was the loving husband of Kay; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., was the much-adored father of Easton and Carlisle to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., enjoyed a long and influential career in public service; and

WHEREAS, As the Director of the Illinois Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse during the 1970s, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., championed the use of substance abuse treatment programs as an alternative to incarceration; and

WHEREAS, In 1984 Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., became Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health; and

WHEREAS, In 1986 Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Five Hospital Homebound Elderly Program whose mission was to provide in-home Medicare healthcare to seniors; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., joined the Chicago Crime Commission where he headed the watchdog agency from 1995 to 2005; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., >.imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of October, 2014, do hereby commemorate Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr., for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas Kirkpatrick,...
