RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Lily Tolpo has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 97; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Lily Tolpo was a gifted sculptor and painter and the loving wife of the late artist Carl Tolpo; and
 
WHEREAS, Lily Tolpo was the much-adored mother of Vincent, Christine and Carolyn, the grandmother of three and the great-grandmother of two; and
 
WHEREAS, The daughter of a Polish immigrant mother and a father of Chinese heritage, Lily Tolpo was a talented violinist; and
 
WHEREAS, Lily Tolpo married her husband in 1941 and they lived at Tree Studios on the Near North Side before moving to suburban Barrington; and
 
WHEREAS, Lily Tolpo won Illinois' highest honor for her sculptures of Abraham Lincoln and other historical figures; and
 
WHEREAS, In addition to her work as a sculptor, Lily Tolpo was a highly talented artist who painted prominent Chicago society figures, physicians and leading figures in the surrounding suburbs; and
 
WHEREAS, Lily Tolpo's works are included in the collection of the Smithsonian; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Lily Tolpo serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Lily Tolpo will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Lily Tolpo imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby commemorate Lily Tolpo for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lily Tolpo.
