RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Honorable John P. Callahan, Jr. has announced his retirement as a Judge of the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his retirement by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, John was raised in Chicago arid graduated from Marist High School in 1981; and

WHEREAS, John earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Marquette University in 1985 and completed his Juris Doctor at the Illinois of Technology, Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1988; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from law school, he worked as: a tax. consultant for Price Waterhouse & Co.; and

WHEREAS, After working as a tax consultant, John joined the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, where he served as an Assistant State's Attorney in the traffic, misdemeanor, felony, public integrity, and gang crimes unit; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1996, John left the State's Attorney's Office and went into private practice as an attorney at Sullivan, Hincks & Conway, where he handled corporate transactions, civil litigation, criminal defense, and real estate matters; and

WHEREAS, John served as a board member of the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis and the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association; and

WHEREAS, John was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court on September 8, 2009 to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Daniel J. Kelley; arid

WHEREAS, He was retained in 2010, and successfully ran for retention in 2016; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council assembled this twenty-third day of March, 2022, do hereby congratulate Judge Callahan, Jr. on his retirement and wish him the very best on his future endeavors; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy ofthis resolution be presented to Judge John P. Callahan, Jr.
