RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Reverend Benjamin R. Morin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Maywood, the Reverend Benjamin R. Morin was a widely admired member of the religious community and a former prisoner of war during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Deployed to the Philippines as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army on November 20, 1941, the Reverend Benjamin R. Morin made history when he led the first United States tank engagement of World War II shortly after the outbreak of hostilities with Japan; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Benjamin R. Morin's tank was set ablaze during combat in the jungle and he was forced to surrender and was subjected to three-and-a-half years of brutal captivity; and
WHEREAS, After returning home following the war, the Reverend Benjamin R. Morin became a priest and served as a member of the Society of Jesus for more than 68 years; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Benjamin R. Morin spent the majority of his religious life serving villagers in rural Peru; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Benjamin R. Morin retired in 1999 and moved to the Jesuit Columbiere Center; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Benjamin R. Morin was the last surviving officer of National Guard's 92nd Battalion; and
WHEREAS, The holiness, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend Benjamin R. Morin serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Benjamin R. Morin will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his three brothers, Arthur, George and Paul and his two sisters, Audrey and Rose Marie, the Reverend Benjamin R. Morin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
