RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, in His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Allen B. Bridges, an outstanding citizen and member of his community; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and
WHEREAS, born on November 21, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to delighted parents Bernard A. and Katherine Bridges, Allen was the second of two children; and
WHEREAS, a Chicago native, Allen grew up in the Ida B. Wells Homes in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood and attended Wendell Phillips Grammar School and Tilden Technical High School; and
WHEREAS, he professed his devotion to Christ at an early age, and entered the sacrament of marriage with Esther B. Dander of Elkhart, Indiana, and their union bore one son, Allen B. Bridges, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to providing for his family, Allen started with humble beginnings in the workforce, piecing together part-time jobs at the post office and in retail, and eventually turned a part-time job into a 38-year professional career as a pressman; and
WHEREAS, he enjoyed photography, listening to jazz, attending social events with his family and friends, dancing, and playing sports; and
WHEREAS, Allen B. Bridges was a man of wisdom and dedication to his family, beloved by his colleagues and respected by many in his community. Although he will be deeply missed, the memory of his character will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 17th Day of June, 2015, do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon learning of the passing of Allen B. Bridges and extend our deepest condolence to his family and loved ones.
