RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Billy Cannon has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 80; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Billy Cannon was a legendary professional football player and the loving husband of Dorothy; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Billy Cannon was the much-adored father of five children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Billy Cannon won the Heisman Trophy for Louisiana State University in 1959 and was the school's only Heisman winner; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Billy Cannon enjoyed a highly successful career and was the Number 1 overall selection in both the AFL and the NFL drafts in 1960; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Billy Cannon began his professional career with the Houston Oilers and played in the Super Bowl for the Oakland Raiders before retiring from the Kansas City Chiefs at the close of the 1970 season; and
WHEREAS, After leaving football, Dr. Billy Cannon attended dental school at Loyola University of Chicago and the University of Tennessee and earned both D.D.S. and M.S. degrees; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Billy Cannon went into private practice and later provided quality dental care to inmates at the Louisiana State Penitentiary where inmates called him "Legend"; and
WHEREAS, The talent, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Billy Cannon serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Billy Cannon to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Billy Cannon was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Billy Cannon imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
