HONORING LOUIS JOHN DYE FOR HIS SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY
WHEREAS, In 1943, Louis John Dye was called to arms to serve and protect his nation during World War II, doing so for the love of his country thereby demonstrating the great strength and courage of the Greatest Generation to which he belonged; and
WHEREAS, Louis John Dye, was born in Hernando, Mississippi on November 24, 1922. He is a father of twelve and a loving husband for more than five decades as well as a friend to many and a hero to all; and
WHEREAS, Louis John Dye served from 1943 to 1945 as a private first class in the 1321st Engineering Battalion. Although he would have liked to serve overseas, he was stationed at Camp Sutton in North Carolina for his entire tour of duty where he unfortunately endured his share of racism. However, true to the stoicism so well displayed by all of his generation regardless of race, he did not become embittered nor was he disillusioned as a result; and
WHEREAS, Louis John Dye's love of country remains undiminished. It must behoove him, who labored under the yoke of discrimination against people of color during his Army days, to know that the Commander and Chief of that Army is now an African American; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael Chandler, Alderman of the 24th Ward, has informed this august body of Louis John Dye's service to this United States and its citizens; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council gathered here this 12th Day of December, 2012, do hereby honor one of the Greatest Generation heroes, Louis John Dye for answering his nation's call to service in time of war and, with great dignity, honorably executing the duties to which he was assigned as well as express our very best wishes for health, happiness and success in all future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Louis John Dye.
