RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rubel Phillips has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-six; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rubel Phillips was a pioneering member of the Republican Party in the State of Mississippi and the loving husband of Margaret; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rubel Phillips was the much-adored father of two sons and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Alcorn County, the Honorable Rubel Phillips earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rubel Phillips served as Circuit Clerk of Alcorn County and as a member of the Mississippi Public Service Commission; and
WHEREAS, The leadership and vision of the Honorable Rubel Phillips was largely responsible for the rejuvenation of Mississippi's Republican Party during the 1950s and 1960s; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rubel Phillips entered private law practice in 1958 and served from 1979 to 1990 as an in-house counsel and consultant for Mobile Communications Corporation of America; and
WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication of the Honorable Rubel Phillips serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Rubel Phillips will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable.Rubel Phillips imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of July, 2011, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Rubel Phillips for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Rubel Phillips.
