RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Saint Richard Parish in the Archer Heights community will celebrate its 90th Anniversary on October 28, 2018, with a Sunday morning Mass said by the Reverend Kris Janczak; and
WHEREAS, The celebration of the Mass will be followed by an off-site celebration at 115 Bourbon Street where students will perform songs; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this anniversary by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, On June 8, 1928, His Eminence, George Cardinal Mundelein established St. Richard Parish which was first located in a storefront until land was purchased and a wooden church was constructed which was blessed in October of that year; and
WHEREAS, By 1931 the parish had 300 people attending mass and it continued to grow steadily even while the Southwest Side was recovering from the Great Depression; and
WHEREAS, A boom in the real estate market on the Southwest Side during the 1950s brought even more parishioners to St. Richard Church; and
WHEREAS, In 1966 the Parish organized what was referred to as an annual County Fair, more commonly known as a carnival, which over the years has remained a great source of income for St. Richard Parish; and
WHEREAS, In 2016, St. Richard Parish launched a 5K Rocket Run. There were over 150 runners who ranged from under the age of 10 to over the age of 80; and
WHEREAS, Many parishioners are actively involved in the civic activities of their community and are valued members of the Archer Heights Civic Association and the 8th Police District Caps program; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby congratulate St. Richard Parish on its 90th Anniversary and its many contributions over the decades to the Roman Catholic faithful of the Archer Heights community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Reverend Kris Janczak, Pastor...
