City Council October 31, 2018
WHEREAS, St. Therese Chinese Catholic School is one of only a few Catholic elementary schools in the nation to have earned the National Blue Ribbon award twice; 2011 and this year 2018; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of the significant bestowed on this noteworthy school by the Alderman Patrick D. Thompson, Alderman of the 11th Ward; and
WHEREAS, St. Therese Chinese Catholic School located at 247 West 23rd Street was one of the 349 schools recognized as a National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2018. The recognition is based on a school's overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups; and
WHEREAS, The coveted Nation Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content; and
WHEREAS, On November 7-8, the Secretary and the Department of "Education will celebrate with 300 public and 49 private school honorees at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, St. Therese Chinese Catholic School curriculum from PreK through 8th grade include multilingual instruction, offering Mandarin and Spanish, students receive 90 minutes of daily mathematics and 90 minutes of proficiency in reading, writing, comprehension, and communications, and it is their hard work and academic achievements that made this award possible; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this thirty-first day of October 2018, do hereby salute the success of St. Therese Chinese Catholic School and extend our heartiest congratulations upon attaining the National Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award; and
