MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BENNIE LEE JACOBS

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the death of Bennie Lee Jacobs, affectionately called "Duke," on November 3, 2017; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Anthony A. Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Duke was born on October 20, 1939, in Trail Lake, Mississippi, to Beatrice Jacobs; and

WHEREAS, He later relocated to the Chicago area, and was educated in the Chicago Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Duke went on to marry the love of his life, the late Earlean Jacobs; and

WHEREAS, Duke spent thirty-three years working for Ford Motor Company until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Duke was baptized in Jesus' name at Bethlehem Healing Temple and Apostolic Church of God under the leadership ofthe late Bishop Arthur M. Brazier; and

WHEREAS, Duke leaves to cherish his memory his children, Debbie, Darren (Brenda), Bennie Jr., Bryan (Karen), Karen (Nathaniel) and Kenya; loving mother, Beatrice Jacobs Winston; sisters, Leola, Maxine, Joyce (Bishop Fred Settles) and Carolyn; grandchildren, Jalissa, Bryonna, Gary and Rahsaan; great-grandchildren, Desean and Aiden; sisters-in-law, Rose, Ocie, Denise and Doris Anne; brothers-in-law, Eric, Glenn, Anthony, Bill and Lester; best friend, Alvin (Carolyn); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and

WHEREAS, Duke touched the lives of all who knew him through his spirit, kind heart, and love for Christ. He will be deeply missed, but memories of him will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this thirteenth day of December, 2017, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Bennie Lee Jacobs; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution are presented to the family of Bennie Lee Jacobs as a sign of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
