RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING JAMES M. DANIELS ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, James M. Daniels, esteemed police officer and United States military veteran, is retiring from the Chicago Police Department on July 14, 2020, after 26 years of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this momentous occasion by the Honorable Matthew J. O'Shea, Alderman ofthe 19th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Officer Daniels graduated from St. Rita High School in 1985, obtained a fixed wing Pilot License from the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation in 1989, and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at Lewis University; and

WHEREAS, Officer Daniels honorably served our country in the United States Marine Corps Unit HML-776, where in 1990 he and his unit were called into active duty to fill a gap left by the redeployment forces stationed in Okinawa in connection with Operation Desert Storm; in 1991, Officer Daniels and his unit were assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, which went to the Philippines to assist in distributing food, water, and medical supplies to local villages following the devastation caused by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo; and
WHEREAS, After six years of service, Officer Daniels was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps at the rank of Sergeant, proudly carrying with him the saying "once a Marine, always a Marine"; and

WHEREAS, Officer Daniels began his career with the Chicago Police Department on July 5, 1994, working in the Ogden 010th District and Near West 012th District before serving in the Mass Transit Unit until 2002; and

WHEREAS, Since 2002, Officer Daniels has served in the Detached Services Unit 543 for the Office of the Mayor and City Council, providing security and dignitary protection for City elected officials during the administrations of former mayors Richard M. Daley and Rahm Emmanuel, and now under Mayor Lori Lightfoot's administration; and
