RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING WADE WATSON
WHEREAS, Mr. Wade Watson-was born on May 28,1917, and: therefore turned 99: years old last month. He is^truly^a-testamentof time, .havirfg experienced so'rrie£f the most memorable periods of American history; and
WHEREAS, The-Honorable Toni L. Foulkes, Alderman of the 16th Ward, has apprised this august body of this remarkable man's auspicious , milestone; and
WHEREAS, Wade Watson was born in 1917 in the Carolina?. His parents relocated Wade at the age of 5,.along, with his two brothers arid a sister, to the Englewood cpmmunity where he still lives; arid
WHEREAS, Mr. Watson attended Copernicus Elementary School, Lindblom High Schodl. and Wilson Junior College; and
WHEREAS, in 1941, Mr. Watson married fellow Englewood resident Fayette A. LaCroix. They had three very successful children: Wade Jr., Wayne and Katherine. After 64 years of marriage Mrs. Watson passed.away in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Wade Watson-was a great provider-tb his family. He.frequently worked, multiple jobs in order to enable hisifamily to have the necessities as well as educational opportunities. He-retired from Commonwealth. Edison after more than 40,years. He also worked more than 30 years for the Chicago Park District. In addition, he worked, in the slaughterhouse in the Back of the Yards neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Watson loves sports. When .he was younger he enjoyed playing, basketball and tennis. He liked to wrestle; including with his grandson; and
WHEREAS, Wade Watson js-active in his community. He was president of his block club and a precinct captain; and
WHEREAS,, in recognition of Wade. Watson's contributions-'to his-commuriity-.64th'and Sangamon, is being named Honorary-Watson Street;: now,, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 22nd Day of June, 2016, do hereby congratulate Mr. Wade Watson on his 99th birthday and'the naming. of Watson Street and extend our very best w...
