RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Simmerling, has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 77; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A long-time resident of the Beverly neighborhood, John J. "Jack" Simmerling was a renowned Chicago artist and the loving husband for 55 years of Marjorie; and
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Simmerling was the much-adored father of John, Victoria, Carlos, Mary, Meg, the late Catherine and the late Elizabeth to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Simmerling was the cherished grandfather of Katherine, John Andrew, Thomas, Matthew, Cary John, Stephen, Maria, Paul, Kalven Jack, Wilson Jack, Graham and Eliza; and
WHEREAS, Showing great promise as an artist from a young age, John J. "Jack" Simmerling had an abiding fascination with the richness of Chicago's historic architecture; and
WHEREAS, With a degree in fine arts from the University of Notre Dame and experience working at a frame factory, John J. "Jack" Simmerling opened The Heritage Gallery in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood in 1958; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John J. "Jack" Simmerling to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, John J. "Jack" Simmerling imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of July, 2013, do hereby commemorate John J. "Jack" Simmerling for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John J. "Jack" Simmerling.
