RESOLUTION HONORING CATHERINE MCGILL

WHEREAS, Catherine McGill was among the honorees at the Twenty-First Annual Mayfair Salute to American Heroes on November 6, 2022; and

WHEREAS, This body was informed of that honor by Alderman Samantha Nugent; and

 

WHEREAS, Catherine moved to the Mayfair Community and to St. Edward Parish in 1958 with her family. They moved into a house on Sunnyside where the family resided for 60 years; and

WHEREAS, After attending Josephinum High School, Catherine attended Little Company of Mary School of Nursing and St. Xavier College to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. After graduating and taking the State of Illinois Boards, she started working at the Visiting Nurse Association, the original home health program. She then accepted a position working with Dr. Bernstein, an internist, and Director of Cook County Hospital Fantus Clinic, where she was the office manager and nurse; and

 

WHEREAS, Catherine began filling in as the St. Edward School secretary in January 1985 with the intention of completing the school year and returning to nursing in the summer. However, Catherine became the heart and soul of St. Edward School and served the students, teachers, staff and parish for 36 years until her retirement in 2021; and

 

WHEREAS, Catherine is married to her high school sweetheart, Roger. Together, Catherine and Roger have three children who all attended St. Edward School. Catherine and Roger are the grandparents to two lovely grandchildren with another grandchild on the way; and

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this Fourteenth day of December, 2022, do hereby express our congratulations to Catherine McGill on her well-deserved honor; and
