RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Moses Harrison has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-one; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Caseyville, Illinois, the Honorable Moses Harrison was a former Illinois Supreme Court Justice known for his opposition to the death penalty; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Moses Harrison wrote a dissenting opinion of a 1990s death penalty case that "the execution of an innocent person is inevitable" despite efforts to establish a fair and reliable judicial system; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Moses Harrison was elected to the state's high court in 1992 and was made Chief Justice in 2000; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Moses Harrison retired in 2002 from the high court; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Moses Harrison previously served during his judicial career as a 5th District Appellate Court Judge and as a Circuit Court Judge; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Moses Harrison was a recipient of the Justinian Society of Lawyers Award of Excellence; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Moses Harrison serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Moses Harrison will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Moses Harrison imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of May, 2013, do hereby
 
 
commemorate the Honorable Moses Harrison for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Moses HarHson.
