MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Matthew A. Carlson on December 13, 2013, at the age of thirty; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 2, 1983 in Elgin, Illinois, Matthew "Mac" Alan Carlson was the beloved husband of Amy, nee Garlisch; loving son to devoted parents Bonnie, nee Rattray and Rick; cherished brother of Maggie (Frank) Turza; treasured uncle of Eddie and Finn; and dear friend and family member to many; and
WHEREAS, He was born with an insatiable desire to explore the world around him through rock climbing, kayaking, camping and biking, never losing a sense of wonder and appreciation for nature. He was known for his young spirit, with the creative abandon of an artist, he was a drawer, painter, glassmaker and musician. As a loyal friend and natural caregiver, Mac delighted in impressing his friends and family with his specialties of smoked barbeque and homemade ice cream.
WHEREAS, Accomplishing so much during a short life, Mac was an avid swimmer, he still holds the pool record in the one-hundred yard breaststroke at Barrington High School. Mac also understood the importance of hard work to live a balanced and complete life: he attended the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science from Illinois State University, and then began his career as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center after graduation. He was pursuing his Master's degree in Health Administration from Ohio University; and
WHEREAS, remembered as a dutiful husband, devoted son and sibling, dog-lover, energetic and kind uncle, frequent blood donor, active community member, teammate, coworker, Mac was a powerfully positive force in the lives of many; and
