RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Lawrence E. Walsh has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 102; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lawrence E. Walsh was a retired federal Judge and the loving husband of the late Maxine and Mary; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence E. Walsh was the much-adored father of Barbara, Janet, Dale, Sara and Elizabeth to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The grandson of a sea Captain and the son of a doctor, Lawrence E. Walsh was born in a Nova Scotia fishing village and raised in Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence E. Walsh earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Columbia University; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence E. Walsh served as a United States Deputy Attorney General under President Dwight D. Eisenhower and was a negotiator in the Vietnam War peace talks; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence E. Walsh served for six years as the Independent Counsel and headed the Iran-Contra investigation during the administration of President Ronald Reagan; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Lawrence E. Walsh serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence E. will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Lawrence E. Walsh imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this second day of April, 2014, do hereby commemorate Lawrence E. Walsh for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lawrence E. Walsh.
