RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Playwright Bruce Norris has been awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize in Drama for his play titled "Clybourne Park"; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1917, the Pulitzer Prize honors recipients who have excelled in the fields of journalism, literature and musical composition; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Norris attended Northwestern University and has maintained a decade-long relationship with Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Norris's "Clybourne Park", which will open Steppenwolf's theater season in the fall of 2011, examines the often complex relationship between race and real estate in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Pulitzer Prize Committee described Bruce Norris' work as powerful, witty, and perceptive; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Norris is described by his colleagues as having great theatrical sense and a true social conscience; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this fourth day of May, 2011, do hereby congratulate Bruce Norris on having been awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and do hereby look forward to the upcoming Chicago debut of "Clybourne Park"; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bruce Norris.
