RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THOMAS J. CODY AS EMERALD SOCIETY OF ILLINOIS "IRISH MAN OF THE YEAR"
WHEREAS, On September 14th, 2015, Thomas J. Cody, was honored by the Emerald Society of Illinois as "Irish Man of the Year"; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cody was born into the Englewood community, to Florence and John Cody, and he attended St. Leo Grammar School and graduated from Little Flower High School; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cody was drafted into the United States Army on September 23,1965, shortly thereafter in 1966, he was assigned to the United Nations Unit, and
WHEREAS, on September 05th, 1967, he was honorably discharged: and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cody graduated from the Cook County Sheriff's Police Academy on August 20th, 1971, in 1972 he was hand picked to the Chicago Police Department Vice Control Division/Narcotics Section, in 1973 he was assigned to the Metropolitan Enforcement Group, shortly after in 1975 he was promoted to Supervisor of a Team of five agents; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cody graduated from Lewis University in 1977, and in 1981 he was selected to Executive Protection Detail where he served as bodyguard for the State's Attorney of Cook County, Honorable Richard M. Daley; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cody became one of the original members of the Bagpipes & Drums of the Emerald Society of Illinois, Chicago Police Department, this is the only non-military band allowed to play in Arlington National Cemetery: and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cody retired from the Cook County Sheriff's Department in 1999 and received six commendations and a Life Saving Award, Thomas joined the Merrionette Park Police Department and was awarded Police Officer ofthe Year in 2005 along with Chicago Police Department Joint Operation Commendation for apprehending a group
of Armed Robbers; the Cook County Sheriffs Distinguished Merit Award for assisting in solving a heinous murder : and WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cody was elected in 2012 by fellow Band Members to be the Band Manager ofthe Bagpip...
