WHEREAS, on the afternoon of November 19, 2018, a shooting carried out by a lone gunman occurred at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago's Bronzeville community claiming the lives of emergency room physician, Dr. Tamara "Tammy" O'Neal; Chicago Police Officer Samuel Jimenez of the 2nd District (Wentworth Avenue); and pharmacy resident Dayna Less; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of this tragic event by Alderman Edward M. Burke and Alderman Patrick Thompson; and
WHEREAS, while walking through the parking lot of Mercy Hospital, Dr. Tamara "Tammy" O'Neal, a passionate and dedicated medical practitioner formerly of Portage, Indiana, was tragically slain; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Tamara "Tammy" O'Neal, a 1998 graduate of LaPorte High School, studied at Purdue University and Southern Illinois University before graduating medical school at the University of Illinois-Chicago; and
WHEREAS, in doing so she achieved her life's dream of serving humanity as a physician and care-giver; and
WHEREAS, remembered by her family, friends and colleagues as a nurturing, loving and spiritually devoted physician who encouraged everyone she knew to achieve the highest outcomes in life, now, therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twelfth day of December, 2018 do hereby express our prayers and profound sorrow to the family of Dr. Tamara "Tammy" O'Neal who has been called home to God; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this restriction be presented to the family of Dr. Tamara "Tammy" O'Neal.
