RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend Daniel J. Mallette has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend Daniel J. Mallette was the Pastor Emeritus of St. Margaret of Scotland Church which he led for 35 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised in the South Chicago neighborhood, the Reverend Daniel J. Mallette was the beloved son of the late Daniel and Anne, nee Kroll; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend Daniel J. Mallette was ordained a priest in 1957 and served at St. Agatha's Parish in the Lawndale neighborhood, at Fordham University in New York, at Visitation Parish in the Englewood neighborhood and at St. Norbert Parish in Northbrook before heading St. Margaret of Scotland in the Longwood Manor community; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend Daniel J. Mallette was a civil rights advocate who marched alongside the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. in Mississippi and Alabama; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend Daniel J. Mallette was jailed as part of those protests which sought justice and equal rights; and

 

WHEREAS, The Reverend Daniel J. Mallette always taught it was important to give "without expecting anything back"; and

 

WHEREAS, The commitment, faith and sacrifice of the Reverend Daniel J. Mallette serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend Daniel J. Mallette imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this nineteenth day of April, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Reverend Daniel J. Mallette for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Reverend Daniel J. Mallette.
