RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Ronald DiRenzo has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-three; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Ronald DiRenzo was a decorated Chicago Fire Department Battalion Chief and the loving husband of Carol; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Rochester, New York, Ronald DiRenzo served his country for six years in the armed forces following World War II; and
 
WHEREAS, Following his military service, Ronald DiRenzo moved to Chicago where he worked first for the Chicago Transit Authority and then with the Chicago Fire Insurance Patrol, a private fire service funded by insurance companies; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1965 Ronald DiRenzo joined the Chicago Fire Department and was one of the original members of its bomb squad; and
 
WHEREAS, Ronald DiRenzo was awarded the Carter H. Harrison Medal in recognition of his bravery when he defused a bomb containing seventeen sticks of dynamite which was planted in a Daley Center washroom; and
 
WHEREAS, Ronald DiRenzo was promoted to Lieutenant in 1971, Captain in 1974 and Battalion Chief in 1979; and
 
WHEREAS, Following a long and illustrious career, Ronald DiRenzo retired in 1993; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ronald DiRenzo serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Ronald DiRenzo will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his wife, Carol, and his children and stepchildren, Ronald DiRenzo imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby commemorate Ronald DiRenzo for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ronald DiRenzo.
