RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Ray Gibson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of sixty-four; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Evanston, Ray Gibson was a widely admired journalist and the loving husband of Edie; and

WHEREAS, Ray Gibson was the much-adored father of Samantha to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Ray Gibson was the dear brother of Georgia and the late Marx; and

WHEREAS, Ray Gibson worked from 1974 until 2011 as a reporter with the Chicago Tribune where he was admired for a seemingly endless array of sources and a remarkable dedication to his craft; and

WHEREAS, Ray Gibson was responsible for numerous high-profile investigations that exposed fraud, scandal and corruption and included stories about crooked politicians, city contractors with organized crime ties and federal jurors with criminal backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, Ray Gibson was twice nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and won several Tribune awards for reporting; and

WHEREAS, Ray Gibson mentored reporters with the Chicago Tribune's investigative team and his expert advice guided many stories that never bore his byline; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ray Gibson serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ray Gibson to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Ray Gibson will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Ray Gibson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
