RESOLUTION HONORING THOMAS HO SIK LEE
WHEREAS, Thomas Ho Sik Lee was among the honorees at the Eighteenth Annual Salute to American Heroes on November 3, 2019, and;
WHEREAS, This body was informed of that honor by Alderman Samantha Nugent, and;
WHEREAS, Thomas Ho Sik Lee enrolled in the Army of the Republic of South Korea in October of 1950. Four months after his enrollment, he was captured by the North Korean Army and was held prisoner. After a trying two months, he managed to escape from the North Korean Army. After his escape, he continued to battle until the armistice on July 27, 1953.
WHEREAS, In February of 1952, Thomas Ho Sik Lee was reinstated as the Defense Department Secretary. He continued to serve in this capacity until he retired, eighteen years later with the rank of Acting Colonel.
Be it resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this Fifteenth day of January, 2020, do hereby express our congratulations to Thomas Ho Sik Lee on his well-deserved honor; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Thomas Ho Sik Lee as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
