RESOLUTION
Whereas, Granville Avenue United Methodist Church will acknowledge its 111 anniversary and celebrate 110 years of service to the Edgewater community with a special service on June 26, 2016; and
Whereas, The City Council has been notified of this event by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and
Whereas, Granville Avenue UMC, located at Granville and Lakewood Avenues in Edgewater, is affectionately known as "The Country Church in the City"; and
Whereas, The church prides itself on having a multi-racial and multi-cultural congregation that is open and affirming; and
Whereas, Granville Avenue UMC cultivates a culture of giving back to the community, whether through its support of the Edgewater food pantry Care for Real for more than 20 years or by collecting water bottles for the Flood Flint with H20 project to benefit the residents of Flint, Michigan. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day of June 22, 2016, do hereby express our gratitude to Granville Avenue United Methodist Church for its generous service to the community; and
Be it further resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the church's leaders.
