RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Francis J. "Frank" Sullivan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Frank is survived by his wife, Sally, daughter, Molly, son, Matt, his sisters, Betty Moraghan, Trudy Schneider and Noreen Brady, brother, Gene, three grandchildren, other family and friends; and

 

WHEREAS, Frank grew up in Edgewater and graduated from St. Gertrude's grade school, Loyola Academy and Loyola University; and

 

WHEREAS, During the Korean War, he served with the Army in Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and

 

WHEREAS, Frank was the grandson of Frank Sullivan, a House Democratic minority leader in Springfield, IL, and grand-nephew of Roger C. Sullivan, an early leader ofthe Cook County Democratic Party; and

 

WHEREAS, He worked as a Chicago Sun Times reporter from 1956 to 1968, covering the criminal court and spending his last three year at the paper reporting from City Hall; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1968, Frank helped to create the Chicago Police Department's news affairs office; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Richard J. Daley appointed Frank as the mayoral press secretary in 1973; and

 

WHEREAS, After Mayor Daley's death in 1976, Frank left City Hall and became the publisher of Avenue M magazine and founded the Frank Sullivan & Associates public relations firm; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Frank Sullivan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-first day of July, 2021, do hereby commemorate Frank Sullivan for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Frank Sullivan.
