RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On September 14, 2013, St. Richard Parish will celebrate its 85th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Established on June 8, 1928, under His Eminence George Cardinal Mundelein, St. Richard Parish has faithfully served the Archer Heights neighborhood on Chicago's Southwest Side for more than eight decades; and
WHEREAS, The parish church was named after St. Richard de Wyche, a 13th century Bishop of Chichester, England; and
WHEREAS, Beginning with the Reverend Horace Wellman, St. Richard Parish has been blessed with a long line of outstanding pastors who have met the spiritual and practical needs of their congregants with extraordinary vision and leadership; and
WHEREAS, In 1947 St. Richard Elementary School was erected under Father Edward Kilroy and has since educated generations of youth; and
WHEREAS, St. Richard Parish fosters faith, hope and charity and encourages its members to aspire to the heartfelt prayer composed by St. Richard: "Lord Jesus Christ may I know thee more clearly, love thee more dearly and follow thee more nearly, day by day"; and
WHEREAS, Through religious, family and social events, St. Richard Parish fosters a deep sense of community and celebrates the rich ethnic fabric diversity of Archer Heights; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of September, 2013, do hereby commend St. Richard parish on 85 years of faithfulness and service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable parchment copy of this resolution be presented to the Reverend Krzysztof Janczak, Pastor of St. Richard Parish.
