WHEREAS, on the afternoon of November 19, 2018, a shooting carried out by a lone gunman occurred at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago's Bronzeville community claiming the lives of PGY-1 pharmacy resident Dayna Less; emergency room physician, Dr. Tamara "Tammy" O'Neal; and Chicago Police Officer Samuel Jimenez of the 2 District (Wentworth Avenue); and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed ofthis tragic event by Alderman Edward M. Burke and Alderman Patrick Thompson; and
WHEREAS, while working at Mercy Hospital, Dayna Less, a first-year pharmacy resident and recent graduate of Purdue University with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree whose mission in life was to help people was tragically slain; and
WHEREAS, Dayna Less, a 2012 graduate of Lake Central High School demonstrated her compassion and commitment to working with others during her college years through volunteer charity work providing assistance at a suicide and sexual assault crisis hotline in Lafayette, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, while at Purdue, Less was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and served on the chapter's leadership team as Vice President of Philanthropy; and
WHEREAS, remembered by her family as a nurturing, loving, spiritually devoted daughter and friend to all, now, therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twelfth day of December, 2018 do hereby express our prayers and profound sorrow to the family of Dayna Less who has been called home to God; and
