TRIBUTE TQ DICK UYVARI

WHEREAS, Friends and colleagues of Dick Uyvari, a longtime Chicago resident who impacted the worldwide Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, particularly through bowling and his support ofthe quadrennial Gay Games, remember his contributions after his sudden death Sept. 2; and

WHEREAS, Dick Uyvari was a critical part of the Chicago sports scene starting in the 1970s, playing a role in the national gay bowling movement, helping host and played in the 1983 International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO) tournament in Chicago, featuring 576 bowlers from the U.S. and Canada, held at Waveland Bowl; and

WHEREAS, Dick Uyvari participated in almost every Gay Games as a bowler, dating back to the inaugural event in 1982 in San Francisco, and also the most recent—held in Cleveland in 2014, earning medals including a gold, a bronze, and two silver medals as bowling team captain; and

WHEREAS, Dick Uyvari was pjgsjdent^ than a dozen
Lincoln Park Lagooners and'Metropoiftan Sports Associations (now known as the Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association, CMSA) bovMng leagues and he served on the boards of the Lagooners, CMSA and IGBO; and

WHEREAS, Dick Uyvari's impact on the local LGBT community, particularly the sports movement included various scholarship programs for athletes, founding the Chicago Pride Invitational bowling tournament in 1988, co-founding and co-chairing Strike Against AIDS, which raised about $500,000 for AIDS-related agencies through bowling events, and organized and ran the annual Celebrity Bowling Tournament to benefit the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, Dick Uyvari's complete dedication to LGBT sports brought him honors including induction into the CMSA Hall of Fame in 2007, joining the HOF committee in 2008, and receiving the IGBO Fellowship, the organization's highest honor, in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Dick Uyvari was so committed to ensuring participation in the Gay Games
