RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING ELLEN BROWN DIXON ON CELEBRATING HER 101ST BIRTHDAY

 

WHEREAS, Ellen Brown Dixon, friend, follower of Christ, and 9th Ward resident celebrates her 101st birthday on November 18, 2021; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this joyous occasion by the Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman ofthe 9th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, Ellen was born in Canton, Mississippi in 1920 to the late Mattie Jane Brown Mondy and Harvey Mondy and was the youngest of seven children; and

WHEREAS, In 1949, Ellen moved to Chicago for work; she held numerous jobs before retiring from Beverly Bank as a cashier; and

 

WHEREAS, Ellen lives in the Roseland community where she purchased her home in 1969; she had one son, the late JD Smith, but she has been a mother to many; and

WHEREAS, Ellen is still an active member ofthe Gospel Truth Missionary Baptist Church, and she has served as the President ofthe Church's Mothers Board; and

WHEREAS, Ellen enjoyed gardening and growing Swiss chard with her late husband, Ernest Dixon; and

WHEREAS, When she is asked what her secret is to a long life, Ellen says "living a life so Jesus Christ can use her", talking, believing, and trusting in Jesus; when asked about her day, Ellen will say "I'm good, leaning and depending on the Lord"; and

WHEREAS, The 9th Ward is grateful for its senior community and hopes Ellen will continue to share her experiences and provide her wisdom to us all; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this seventeenth day of November, 2021, do hereby congratulate Ellen Brown Dixon oh her 101st birthday, and wish her continued happiness and success in all of her future endeavors; and
