CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO MICHAEL R. LUFRANO ON RECEIVING THE HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
WHEREAS, On June 17, 2017, Michael R. Lufrano, Executive Vice-President, Community Affairs and Government Affairs, and Chief Legal Officer for the Chicago Cubs, was named the recipient of the 2017 Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Humanitarian of the Year Award by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Michael Lufrano and the Chicago Cubs epitomize the ideals and goals of the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans with their active involvement in charitable causes, especially Cubs Care and the Chicago Cubs Charities; and
WHEREAS, Mike initiated the annual Race to Wrigley and events such as Catch in the Confines, which have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. These events benefit Cubs Charities, which provides increased access to sports opportunities and targets improvements in health, fitness and education for those at risk, and help promote neighborhood outreach and support; and
WHEREAS, Since Mike joined the Chicago Cubs in July 2004, the team's charitable contributions have totaled nearly $10 million helping organizations serving some of the most vulnerable population in Chicago and the surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, Not only is Mike dedicated to charitable work as a member of the Cubs organization, he continues his community involvement in his personal life as well. Mike serves as past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School in Lakeview. He is also on the Board of Directors of the East Lakeview Neighbors Association and a member ofthe Lakeview Citizens Council, the Central Lakeview Merchants Association, and past President of the Wrightwood Neighbors Community Association; now, therefore
