RESOLUTION HONORING PETTY OFFICER 2™ CLASS, E5, GEORGE PECORARO
WHEREAS, Petty Officer 2nd Class, E5, George Pecoraro was among the honorees at the Eighteenth Annual Salute to American Heroes on November 3, 2019, and;
WHEREAS, This body was informed of that honor by Alderman Samantha Nugent, and;
WHEREAS, Petty Officer 2nd Class, E5, George Pecoraro joined the U.S. Navy in 2008 and served until 2012. He received basic training at Great Lakes Naval Base. Thereafter, he trained for the Naval Honor Guard at Boling Air Base in Washington, D.C.
WHEREAS, George Pecoraro was a ceremonial guard squad leader at Boiling Air Base and was stationed at the U.S. Naval Station in Washington from 2009 to 2010. He had various assignments and duties that included performing guarding and burial duties for Naval personnel; guarding during wreath ceremonies, and training over 100 ceremonial guardsmen. Most especially, he was part of the ceremonial guard during Senator Ted Kennedy's funeral and President Barack Obama's first inauguration.
WHEREAS, In 2010, he was assigned to the US Navy Seal Carrier - John C. Stennis. He traveled to the Pacific Fleet and was deployed to the Arabian Gulf area of Iraq and Afghanistan. The carrier was the last Naval Carrier to fly missions over Iraq.
WHEREAS, On the carrier, George was an Operations Specialist, and worked for the Admiral of Carrier Group Strike #3. He oversaw radar and coordination with all the other control Navy operations in the Strike Group, where he earned his Rank was Petty Officer, 2nd Class, E5. Following, he had one full and one half of deployment to the same area of Iraq and Afghanistan.
WHEREAS, His medals and awards include the National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Medal; Ceremonial Guard Ribbon; Armed Forces Service Medal; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal; and the Surface Warfare Pin.
