RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF GAMBLERS
WHEREAS, Gambler's Bar opened on September 3, 1986 in North Mayfair Community on the City's Northwest Side and is celebrating its 30th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Gambler's is owned and operated by Jackie Siivonen, a woman owned business. A longtime community establishment that is famous for their dart room and sponsors many tournaments. Most notable, is a teen girls summer league at Gompers Park where the owner, Jackie, sponsors and attends tournaments in support. A successful woman business operator and role model, she encourages young girls to believe in their strengths and can achieve anything they set their mind to. Gambler's is also involved with the APA Pool league; and
WHEREAS, Gamblers is committed to being a responsible business with a focus beyond just profit. They have been associated with Toys for Tots for 25 years and raised approximately $100,000 in cash donated to "Toys for Tots" to purchase toys for children in need. Every year at Halloween, Gamblers donates a large decorated tub filled with bags of candy and toys for the children at the local day care center; and
WHEREAS, Twice a year, Gamblers organizes a neighborhood sale with unsold items donated to the Mayfair Presbyterian Church for their rummage sale. They have also sponsored numerous benefits and charity events ranging from families with loved ones with end stage cancer, dog rescue shelters, the erection of a Vietnam wall in Springfield, to just name a few; and
WHEREAS, Every Sunday and on all Holidays, Gamblers provides a free buffet for their customers and community, so that those without would have somewhere to go for a hot meal and companionship; now, therefore,
