RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Hazelden Chicago will hold a special benefit on May 20, 2014, at the Radisson Blu Hotel to raise awareness and support for the not-for-profit organization; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Hazelden Chicago opened in 1992 in the River North community and moved to its current Gold Coast location in 1997; and
WHEREAS, A haven of compassion and understanding, Hazelden Chicago is part of the Hazeldon Betty Ford Foundation which is based in Minnesota and is the nation's largest nonprofit addiction treatment provider; and
WHEREAS, Hazelden Chicago helps people reclaim their lives from the disease of addiction to alcohol and other drugs; and
WHEREAS, Hazelden Chicago offers hope and healing through recovery solutions and a continuum of care for youth and adults; and
WHEREAS, Hazelden Chicago provides convenient outpatient treatment options, along with structured recovery housing in a respectful and healing environment; and
WHEREAS, Following treatment, more than 80 percent of adult patients either remain free from the use of alcohol and other drugs or dramatically reduce their use in the year after treatment; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of April, 2014, do hereby congratulate Hazelden Chicago on its outstanding contributions to helping people suffering from addiction to restore and transform their lives; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That May 20, 2014, shall be officially recognized as Hazelden Chicago Day throughout the City of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chris Jenkins, Chairman of the Board of Hazelden Chicago.
