A Resolution Honoring the Life of William E. Perkins
WHEREAS, William E. Perkins was born October 6, 1932 in Quitman County, Mississippi and was the first of seven children; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins spent most of his life in Chicago where he attended school and worked; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins was married to Mattie Godbold and had six children who he loved deeply; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins was known as an ambitious, hard worker, which is evidenced by the fact he held his first job at the age of 12 and received numerous sales awards; and
Whereas, Mr. Perkins was dedicated to serving others having held positions as a Cook County Sheriff Officer and as a Precinct Captain for elections; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins' political savvy and ability to organize caught the attention of Chicago's Mayors both past and present; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Perkins was inducted into the Senior Citizen Hall of Fame for his many contributions to the city; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins made his transition on November 26, 2013; and
WHEREAS, In addition to countless friends, Mr. Perkins leaves behind his six children, three siblings, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous other relatives; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we the Mayor and the City Council of Chicago gathered here this fifth day of February, 2014 do hereby express our condolences to the friends and family of William E. Perkins and acknowledge the many ways in which he served the people of Chicago; and
